You have created a very powerful image. The simplicity of a lone hand seemingly rising through the loose soil as though a corpse has been unearthed, or possibly found a way to claw its way to the surface, is macabre and symbolic. I had to look closely to see that the weathered hand was carved from wood. In black and white the textures are accentuated and the hand seems to be stonelike, almost petrified. Black and white was the perfect choice to make this image stark and to give the photograph visual and metaphorical depth. The words that accompany your photograph mirror the work perfectly. They are exactly the questions that might be asked of the dying - albeit, asked too late.
